From the York Road Partnership: As 2017 comes to a close, we are reaching out to neighborhood associations and community leaders across Baltimore.

We hope you and your neighbors will consider participating in an opportunity to address violence in the City of Baltimore. Baltimore has experienced some 336 homicides during 2017.

On December 31, 2017, at 2pm, please consider spending some time in places touched by violence in your neighborhood and across the city. This is an effort to organize a simultaneous presence at some 177 locations throughout the city to engage the crisis of homicide in Baltimore. For additional information, please visit https://baltimorepresence.org

Even if you cannot personally participate, please share this opportunity with your neighbors, community, and all other potentially interested parties.

Thursday, March 2, 7 pm
Reginald F. Lewis Museum
830 E. Pratt Street, Baltimore 21202

Hate incidents that target Muslims have been increasing at an unprecedented rate in our country. The ICJS recognizes an urgent need to confront Islamophobia through interreligious education and engagement. This three-part series begins with the lecture “Banning shariah.” Many U.S. state legislatures have discussed or passed legislation banning the use of shariah (Islamic religious law) in courts with little awareness of how religious law functions in Muslim communities.

The first speaker, and the 2017 Manekin-Clark Lecturer, Dr. Anver Emon will provide a brief introduction to shariah and argue that shariah bans are a dangerous political tool that positions American Muslims as threats to democracy and American values.
